Staff Spotlight
Often we are so busy focusing on the children at Xinxing that we forget about the amazing bunch of dedicate and loyal staff we have working with us.In this staff spotlight we want to introduce you to:
Liao Xiaoqing
Nickname: Auntie Liao
Role: Educator
With Xinxing since: April 2005
Why choose to work with Xinxing?
I like children. I enjoy my time to work with the children at Xinxing center. Meanwhile, I appreciate the working atmosphere with my colleagues. I have to say I’ve received more reflections on life when I dedicate my time with children.
What unforgettable thing stayed with you the most?
The children we helped at Xinxing center many years ago phoned me and some children even visited Xinxing staff when they have grown up and had jobs.
What is your new year’s wishes for Xinxing?
I wish Xinxing could grow bigger and bigger and help more needy kids. I wish all the children could grow up healthy and happily.
Feature & Innovation
The Summer Camp is an activity organized by the Outreach team with the aim of familiarizing the disadvantaged children who live in remote mountain areas with many aspects of life in the city in order to help them reintegrated into the mainstream community
The training course of adolescent sex knowledge for 137 rural left-behind children were carried out in two Central Primary Schools in the whole year 2014. This activity was funded by the Geneva Global and Shanghai Social Adventure Group
Baoji Daily reported this year’s summer camp and gave a very high evaluation
Open communication is the most important ingredient in a relationship
Xiao Ting is from a remote village in Gansu province. Her parents divorced when she was 1 and then her mother re-married. Xiao Ting lived with her mother. When she was 14 she had a huge argument with her step-father and ran away to Guangdong. However, when she got to Baoji on the train her money was stolen and she was referred to Xinxing by the police. After spending some weeks in Xinxing, Xiao Ting became ready to speak with her parents however she was not ready to move back home yet and wanted to remain at Xinxing centre. Xinxing staff encouraged her to be brave enough to go home and inform her parents of her own feelings and emotions and convince them to let her live with Xinxing for a longer period.
An agreement was made between Xinxing & the parents and herself to allow her to return to Baoji whilst staying in close contact with the family and ensuring Xiao Ting returned to them for the Chinese New year period. Xiao Ting has found a passion & talent for painting and she currently joins a painting class outside of Xinxing once per week. We will continue to support her.
