Baoji Xinxing Aid for Street Kids Summer Camp

Release time:2017-03-11 18:17

Day One I had no idea what I would be in for! Luckily for me, Helen took me under her wing, acting as my translator and mentor! We held an opening ceremony for the children, who performed a dance for us! The children were split into four different groups, and were given activities focussed on getting to know each other, team work, and brainstorming ground rules for the following week.

                                                                              San zu (Group three)

That evening, the children were in for a surprise! We took them to a Ukrainian circus! Acrobats, clowns, magic, dancers, and performing animals! The children loved it - Especially the performing bears and lions.

Day Two

We ventured into the city park for a ‘treasure hunt’. The activities involved interaction with the public and team work to complete the number of tasks.

Next stop was the zoo! Giraffes, zebras, elephants, monkeys, camels, reindeer, bears, lions, birds and more! Unlike New Zealand, where the zoo is a separate entity, this zoo was located in the park!

Not only did this park have a lake and a zoo, it also had a small amusement park! The children were excited to go on the bumper cars! It was possibly their favourite activity of the day! To be honest, it was mine too! I jumped at the chance to join the children in the bumper cars - It was like being a kid again!

The children were treated to McDonald’s for lunch. Like every McDonald’s the menu was similar to that in New Zealand. However, the chicken nuggets were complimented with a ‘mango sour and spicy’ sauce, different to the ‘sweet and sour’ sauce I was accustomed to!
